April Peril

On April 5th, 2009, all roads led to Pennsylvania. It’s the start of spring, the start of new hope, and the start of the Major League games!
Flights were made, meetings were canceled, and dates were postponed (or rather transferred to Philly), just to witness the clash of the Atlanta Braves and the tournament favorite Philadelphia Phillies. The Stars and Stripes was proudly unfolded on the diamond as the sea of green where it floats was surrounded by an even greater sea of red and white.
The night was transformed into day by the enthusiasm, energy, and vigor of the fans. The opening is probably the most fun day in the Major League Calendar. There are no playoff slots to be won or lost, not crowns to defend, just sheer athletic vigor to show to the fans. Players from both teams were very passionate about that game. The lively enthusiasm of the fans added energy to their game. They just can’t help but perform well: there are thousands in attendance and millions at home who are willing to give that ‘yeah’ and that ‘boo’ with every move they make.
The first in-game pitch signaled the start of a promising season. Not a single drop of sweat was spared by the rosters from both teams. Early in the morning of April 5th, the Phillies, in their red sweatshirts and white striped pants, were already feeling the field of the Citizens Bank Park. There could be no better feeling than to start the season’s journey on the home field.
But the Atlanta Braves proved to their name and were undaunted by any disadvantage they face. They displayed the courage for which they were aptly name. The peril of losing the first game is just too much so both teams gave their all. In the end, every fan could have sworn that he would still watch the game even if the ticket price is doubled.
